چکیده

Cosmic-ray background fluxes were modeled based on existing measurements and theories and are presented here. The model, originally developed for the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Balloon Experiment, covers the entire solid angle (4π sr), the sensitive energy range of the instrument (∼ 10 MeV to 100 GeV) and abundant components (proton, alpha, e−, e, μ−, μ and gamma). It is expressed in analytic functions in which modulations due to the solar activity and the Earth geomagnetism are parameterized. Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Balloon Flight Data Handling Overview

THE Balloon Flight Engineering Model (BFEM) consists of three major detector components: the tracker (TKR), a stack of silicon strip detectors and thin lead foils; the calorimeter (CAL), an array of CsI(Tl) logs; and the anti-coincidence detector (ACD), an array of plastic scintillators covering the tracker. It represents one of the sixteen towers that constitute the Large Area Telescope (LAT) ...

GLAST LAT silicon tracker

The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the Gamma-ray Large-Area Space Telescope (GLAST) mission is designed to provide unprecedented sensitivity in the exploration of the gamma-ray sky. Gamma rays with energy above 10 MeV are detected via the pair conversion process, using a precision silicon tracker-converter and a hodoscopic CsI calorimeter. Charged cosmic rays are rejected by a tiled plastic-scin...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Gamma-ray albedo of the moon

We use the GEANT4 Monte Carlo framework to calculate the γ-ray albedo of the Moon due to interactions of cosmic ray (CR) nuclei with moon rock. Our calculation of the albedo spectrum agrees with the EGRET data. We show that the spectrum of γ-rays from the Moon is very steep with an effective cutoff around 4 GeV (600 MeV for the inner part of the Moon disc). Apart from other astrophysical source...

Searches for Particle Dark Matter with the Glast Large Area Telescope

The Large Area Telescope (LAT), one of two instruments on the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) mission, scheduled for launch by NASA in 2007, is an imaging, wide field-of-view, high-energy gamma-ray telescope, covering the approximate energy range from 20 MeV to more than 300 GeV. Annihilation of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, predicted in many extensions of the Standard Mode...
